My name is George Smith, I'm a Data Science student at the university and looking to become your councillor for Newtown and St Leonards. Since moving to this wonderful city, I have realised two things; how amazing the place and its people are, but also how poorly managed it currently is by the majority Labour city council, who cave to pressure from lobbyists and other parties with fringe ideas. In my time working in accountancy, data analytics and campaign management, I've learnt that to be successful with anything, you need to be organised and not cave to those outside pressures, and that's what I want to bring for the people of this ward to the city council. I want to be able to support the people who live here, both residential and students, whether they live by the barracks, by the campus, or anywhere around and between. I also want to support the numerous small businesses that dot this area and make sure they can make the most of our help. Finally, I want to there to be critical thought when it comes to council positions, from traffic management, to planning permissions, from electric car charging points to recycling and bin collection; we need to actually think and plan it property, rather than making the rash decisions we see today.
